FOUR WAYS EVERY MULEHEAD SHOULD ROCK THE FOURTH OF JULY

Red, White and Mule

Summer is the ideal season for Moscow Mule-lovers, and what better way to kick it off than with some fun takes on everyone’s favorite refreshing cocktail?

Sure, there’s the classic Moscow Mule, which no Mulehead would turn his or her nose up at, but there are also plenty of other ways to enjoy the drink that is taking America by storm, especially on our nation’s birthday.

Going to a pool party with friends? Heading to the beach to watch some fireworks? No matter your plans this Fourth of July, here are four fun and festive ways to enjoy your Moscow Mule while celebrating America’s independence.

2. Festive Moscow Mule Jell-O Shots

In a real party mode? Mix up some Festive Moscow Mule Jell-O Shots. This recipe takes the classic outdoor party staple and gives it a gingery-lime twist that any Mulehead will love. Make them extra-patriotic with simple additions of blue and red food coloring.

Ingredients:

  • 1 one-ounce box Knox gelatin
  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1 cup ginger beer
  • 1 cup water
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Optional: Blue and red food coloring

Directions:

  1. Bring the ginger beer, vodka and water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
  2. While it’s heating, combine the gelatin packets and the water in a bowl.
  3. Once the vodka and ginger beer begin to boil, remove from heat and let stand five minutes.
  4. Next, add the hot mixture to your bowl and stir until all the powder dissolves.
  5. Spray shot glasses (or mini mule mugs!) with cooking oil.
  6. Pour Jell-O mixture into glasses.
  7. Refrigerate for approximately 3 hours or until firm.

3. Flavored Ice Cubes

True traditionalists may want to forego the more festive mules and stick to the original, but that doesn’t mean all your guests need to. Let people customize their own Moscow Mules with a variety of flavored ice cubes on hand to mix and match as they please.

4. The Mega Mule

If you want to share your love of mules with a crowd but don’t want to spend the whole afternoon behind the bar, The Mega Mule is for you. The Mega Mule Challenge is sweeping the nation, and for good reason. The large-batch cocktail takes all the typical Moscow Mule ingredients and scales them up for a crowd, which means less time mixing and more time drinking!
