Smoky Donkey Recipe

Crafted by: Laurentiu Dedu, TITLE, VENUE, Bucharest, Romania.

Recipe:

  • 2 ounces Jura Superstition single malt Scotch whisky
  • 1/2 ounce yuzu juice
  • 1/4 ounce simple syrup
  • Fever-Tree ginger ale, to top
  • Lemon peel, for garnish

Directions:

  1. Shake the first three ingredients with ice, then pour into a copper mug, over ice.
  2. Top up with the ginger ale, and then garnish with lemon peel.

Inspiration:

My inspiration was the Asian-themed venue where I work, and this culture’s tendency to strive for perfection. The name comes from a blend of the smokiness of the Scottish whisky, and the fact that the word “ass” was out of the question!

Laurentiu Dedu is a 30-year-old bartender from Bucharest, Romania. He is now a manager in one of the biggest club and bar groups in Bucharest. His career behind the bar started more than 12 years ago, as a barback. Then he attended bartending schools in Bucharest, and his ambition led him to London, where he graduated from the renowned European Bartender School. He created a Facebook group for bartenders called Bucharest Bartender Exchange, where he promotes bartending jobs and shares cocktail recipes. He occasionally teaches flair and mixology, and hopes to become one of the best in this arena.
